The Reasons Why We Love Children Charity Houston is a nonprofit organization that provides services to children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. They are committed to restoring the lives of these children and their families by providing counselling, family support groups, mentoring programs and more.
The mission of this charity is to provide all necessary resources for these kids so they can lead healthy productive lives. I recently had the opportunity to interview Sabrina McCray, Founder of The Reasons Why We Love Children Charity Houston.
1) What prompted you to become a part of this cause?
In 2012 I saw an article on my Facebook page about 2 twin sisters who were abused and neglected by their parents in the worst way possible. They were left in a closet to die, they were tortured for 2 years.
I did not know them but the story broke my heart and I was determined to find out everything I could about these girls and what would happen to them next. It turned out that their parents had died by suicide within 48 hours of each other, leaving them in the custody of the state. These girls were placed in foster care and I was so relieved to see that they would be getting the support they deserved to help them through such a traumatic experience.
Now, 5 years later these girls are thriving, beautiful young women with big smiles on their faces, pursuing their goals with passion. It was then that I saw what a difference having support and resources can make in the life of a child.
I decided to start The Reasons Why We Love children because I have seen time and again how important it is for these kids to have someone fighting for them, providing support and resources so they are able to explore their full potential.
2) Can you tell us about your organization?
The Reasons Why We Love Children provides counselling, mentoring and other resources for kids who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. I started the charity because I believe that these kids deserve a chance at a life where they feel loved and secure in themselves again! The children we serve range from babies to teens early 20’s.
I am glad to say that we now offer a family support program and a mentoring program which are both in the early stages of development.
3) What are some causes that are close to your heart?
The Causes that are closest to my heart at this time would be The Reasons Why We Love Children, I also love raising awareness about sexual child abuse. I have been a victim of sexual child abuse and it has taken me years to get the help that I need.
4) What are your plans for this organization?
Our plans for The Reasons Why We Love Children include offering more mentoring programs, and family support groups, as well as developing a facility where families can come together as well as other additional services and programs.
5) What are your goals for the future?
Our goal is to have a facility or homes where children can come go when they need help, have counselling, medical care, and live temporarily with families. We provide resources for these kids so that they can lead healthy productive lives. We have seen time and again how important it is for these kids to have someone fighting for them, providing support and resources so they are able to explore their full potential.
6) What is the primary goal of your organization?
Our primary goal of The Reasons Why We Love Children is to provide all necessary resources for these kids so that they are able to lead healthy productive lives. These kids deserve a chance at a life where they feel loved and secure in themselves again!
7) Do you have any advice for people who want to get involved with your organization?
Yes, I would encourage everyone to get involved with The Reasons Why We Love Children Charity Houston. It is very rewarding working with these children. By becoming a part of our team, you get to share in their success and happiness!
The more interest you show the better chance we have of getting the programs we need in place so these kids will have all they need to lead healthy productive lives!
